In certain situations, such as when purchasing tickets or a subscription, you may provide a credit or debit card number, or payment information, which we further qualify as Sensitive Personally Identifiable Information.
We generally do not request on or through our websites, digital products and platforms information that is often considered “highly sensitive,” such as other financial account information (for example, credit report information, bank account numbers), personal health information, or government issued identification numbers (for example, social security number, drivers’ license number, or passport number).

How We Acquire Your Data
You Provide Some Data
We mostly receive Personally Identifiable Information about you because you provide it to us when you engage with our products. For instance, when you purchase a ticket, subscription, complete a survey, enter a contest, or register and/or set up an account/profile, you may be provided, or required to choose, a password and/or User ID, and you may provide a credit, debit, or payment account number, or other payment information, as well as your name, telephone number(s), email and/or street address. Other data such as your age, gender, and preferences may also be requested. In addition, we may acquire information about you when you contact us by telephone, postal mail, social media interaction or messaging (e.g., email, SMS, MMS, or similar technologies). How We Utilize Your Data
Your Requests for Products and Services
We use your data to process your request for content, subscriptions, merchandise, tickets and/or other product(s). When a user of our websites buys a ticket, purchases a subscription, or requests a brochure or other material, we must have the information necessary to process the transaction. That may include, in certain contexts, your name, postal address, zip code, email address, telephone number, and, when applicable, credit card number or payment information. For example, if you subscribe to Gist Afrique or make a payment, we may use your e-mail address or other personally identifiable information to send you a confirmation notice and/or your mailing address to deliver the publication. If you enter an online competition, we will use this information to notify you if you are a winner. Administering the Service

For example, subscription purchases are transacted via an approved, third-party vendor or circulation agent, but at no point is card data or payment information transmitted to an organization other than the Gist Afrique: rather it is transacted by a vendor in situ, with registration information then being transferred via commercially reasonable security measures to our websites and/or digital platforms.
There are also times when you provide information about yourself to us in areas of our websites or platforms that may be managed or participated in by third parties. In such instances, we take every step to ensure that information is transmitted securely when conveyed to and from third party vendors and we require third-party vendors to follow appropriate privacy policies. While we will not authorize them to use your data except for the express purposes for which it is provided — and we take steps to ensure that at no point will that information be shared with any organization(s) other than Gist Afrique — we do not bear responsibility for any actions or policies of third parties. Third-party vendors transacting subscriptions or ticket purchases on behalf of Gist Afrique may retain user data and personally identifiable information for an indeterminate — but not indefinite — period of time, contingent on their need to maintain accurate business records and transaction data, but at no point will that information be shared with any organization(s) other than Gist Afrique or affiliated organizations.
We may also use your data to communicate with you about new features and special offers from Gist Afrique, its partners, subsidiaries, and affiliates and carefully selected companies who we think may offer services and/or products that may be of interest to you. You may also to elect to receive direct mail or telemarketing calls from the Guild or its affiliates about programs, products, and publications. We sometimes make names and addresses available to select organizations for direct mail marketing purposes, but only users who have explicitly opted-in to hear from us or affiliated organizations at the time of purchase, subscription or registration may be contacted. We do not provide our lists to any organizations for e-mail or telemarketing use.
